This is an 1859 Greek Revival-style mansion that is also a B&B. This is the largest remaining plantation home in existence. This home was the inspiration for the movie "Gone with the Wind". The home is seven miles from Plaquemine and two miles from White Castle.

To prevent flooding, a levee across the mouth of Bayou Plaquemine was built, and the Bayou's access to the Mississippi was shut off. A lock system was put in place to control the water level, which was started in 1895. This allowed river traffic to pass through to the Bayou again. In 1961, a nearby lock began operations, and Plaquemine Lock was shut down. The facilities now include a Lockhouse and a display of the type of boats which would have passed through the lock.
